Screenlake Completes Initial Funding Round

We're grateful and thrilled to have Venture backing and the commitment of several industry-expert angel investors.

Screenlake has successfully concluded a pre-seed funding round lead by Verity Ventures and Professor Ali Yurukoglu of the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

Embarking on an engineering journey

Screenlake has vision to transform the consumer intelligence industry. Year after year, old-regime measurement methods have fallen as new media technology replaces the old. Long ago, ad exposure could be measured through broadcast TV-program viewership surveys. This method could not be sustained in the cable era, ushering in OTT cable set-top boxes. Then streaming dissolved this method, and on and on.

The common thread in media technology is increasing fragmentation: fragmentation of time, fragmentation of channels, fragmentation of experience and audiences as we each view our own media anytime, anywhere, increasingly on mobile devices. For measurement, the only clear path is to follow each individual's individual experience exactly. Hence, the rise of endless scandals in poorly-consented personal tracking throughout the Internet, resulting in countless data breaches and information harvesting practices. Severely-needed privacy regulation has largely done away with personal tracking. But, such tracking indeed served a multi-billion dollar measurement need in the market, the demand for which is only increasing year on year. What fills the void?

Enter Screenlake: Privacy-preserving consumer intelligence. Combining principles learned by Screenlake's founder at Harvard's Privacy Tools Project and Stanford's Screenomics lab, Screenlake is setting out to build a behavioral measurement system that interprets every personal trajectory of media consumption across any and every platform, without ever capturing personal information that would reveal the origin of a piece of data.

With the funds raised, we're setting out to build what we've piloted, a technical approach to measurement that, in time, will prove to upend the consumer intelligence industry for the better. Accurate data for business and research, and peace of mind for individuals.
